— MY STORY
Twenty years with osteoporosis – and counting.
I’m Kathleen Alford. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2004 and I’ve spent two decades figuring out how to fight back – naturally. This site is that record.

— HOW THIS STARTED
I didn’t accept the standard story.
When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2004, the conversation was short. Here’s a prescription. Watch your step. Good luck.
I wasn’t satisfied with that. I started reading, experimenting, and – most importantly – writing everything down. What I ate, how I slept, what moved the needle on my DEXA scans, what didn’t.
OsteoDiet began as a personal record.
Over twenty years it became something | share – because I kept wishing someone had left a trail like this when I was starting out.
“Osteoporosis is NOT a death sentence. It can be your doorway to a fuller, more intentional life.”
— Kathleen Alford
THE APPROACH IN BRIEF
- Alkaline-dominant diet (80/20 balance)
- Daily weight-bearing movement
- Targeted supplements (D3, K2,
magnesium) - Quality sleep and stress reduction
- Faith, spiritual direction, and wholeness
— MY JOURNEY
Twenty years, documented.
Osteoporosis diagnosis
Received diagnosis and decided to fight back naturally. Began documenting diet, movement, and supplements. OsteoDiet is born
Alkaline diet discovery
Began applying alkaline-acid balance principles and reducing carbohydrates. DEXA results showed meaningful improvement. Daily diet logs begin in earnest — 192 entries and counting.
Spiritual direction changes everything
Began working with a spiritual director. Sleep improved, stress reduced. The faith dimension of bone health became a core pillar — not separate from the physical work, woven through it.
Better-than-average DEXA results
DEXA scan showed a better-than-average rate of bone loss for my age. Published the full results and the protocol that got me there. “Osteoporosis is not a death sentence” — 15 years in.
Car accident — the real test
A serious car accident left me with a pelvic fracture, broken sacrum, and fibula fracture — at nearly 70, with osteoporosis. I documented every step of the recovery. No surgery required
Full recovery — still going
One year post-accident: walking, driving, gardening — everything restored. Discovered Torque Release Technique chiropractic for ongoing spinal care. Documenting it all, as always.
— FOR YOU, THE READER
If you’re newly diagnosed, this is for you.
I know how frightening a diagnosis can be. I know the feeling of leaving a doctor’s office with more questions than answers.
OsteoDiet is not a substitute for medical advice. But it is 20 years of honest, documented lived experience – and sometimes that’s the most useful thing of all.
